Put three different cups across the lawn and you want to know which one you are putting toward from across the grass. We sew these from plain nylon with double seams on the edges, then mount each one onto a rigid plastic sleeve. Slide the tube over the pin tip, tighten the top nut, and the fabric swings when the breeze picks up.

Sleeve over the pinThe hard plastic tube runs through the hoist side of the fabric. It drops over the top stud of our full height poles and spins freely so the cloth stays open.

Three color splitRed, white, and blue panels let you mark out different holes across the yard. You can spot the far cup from the back patio without walking up to read a number.

Double edge seamsWe run two parallel stitch lines down the fly and along both hems. That keeps the nylon hem flat and slows down the fraying when wind whips the corners all afternoon.

Swapping worn clothWhen a flag spends all summer in the open sun, the colors eventually wash out. Unscrew the top acorn nut, slide the old tube off, and drop a fresh one in place.
