We put the flag, the two pieces of the pole, and the cup in one box. Dig the dirt out, drop the plastic cup in flush with the turf, and screw the pole together. The checkered flag spins when the wind catches it across the grass.

Two pole sectionsThe pole twists together in the center with threaded joints. When it is time to pack things up for a trip to the beach, unscrew the two halves and tuck them in a bag.
Ball retrieval baseThe bottom of the pole flares out into a small disc. When your putt drops, lift the stick straight up and the cup empties without making you bend your back to fish the ball out.
Checkered nylon flagWe sew the black and white checkered flag from woven nylon and mount it on a hard insert. It slides over the top of the pole and turns freely as the breeze shifts across the yard.
Drained hole cupMolded ABS plastic forms the cup that sits in the soil. Three drainage holes sit in the bottom floor so water runs straight through into the dirt after a morning sprinkler runs.
