We built this pin for yards where a friction pole slowly wobbles loose in the wind. Five steel sections click over brass buttons, locking the joint solid so the pole stays straight. It drops into a molded cup that lets rainwater out through the bottom.

Spring button jointsEach section slides over the next until a metal button pops through the hole. The joints do not walk apart when the pole sways in a stiff wind, and pressing the buttons breaks it down for the car trunk.

Painted steel sectionsAlternating bands of red and white run the full height of the iron pole. The tubing has enough heft to sit upright in the cup without bending under the weight of the top hardware.

ABS cup with drainsThe cup sets into the dirt beneath the turf. Three holes cut through the base plate allow groundwater and rain to run straight out, keeping the bottom clear when you retrieve your ball.

Sewn nylon flagA red nylon flag mounts to the top section on a hard tube that spins freely around the pole. Double stitching along the edges keeps the hem together when the wind catches it across the yard.
